Chughureti sits on the left bank of the Mtkvari, across the river from the old center. In the 19th century German settlers and merchants built much of the area, and the elegant houses of David Aghmashenebeli Avenue still show their legacy.
Today the restored avenue is a pleasant walking street of cafes, restaurants and wine bars, and Marjanishvili Square and the Marjanishvili Theatre anchor the neighborhood. Fabrika, a Soviet sewing factory turned creative hub, draws young people and visitors, and the central railway station is close by.
Chughureti suits buyers who want a central home with character at a lower price than on the right bank, and investors in short-term rentals near the city's most popular new spots. Historic apartments that need renovation offer the best value.
